peta contest exploits turkeys
If you don't want to eat turkey, don't eat turkey, eat something else and don't call it tofurkey, call it something else, and most of all if you don't eat a turkey you don't get a wishbone - plastic or otherwise. If you want to make a wish for crying out loud do it some other way.
This is nothing but a gimmick that exploits animals and the poor idiots that fall for it.
From peta prime:
Wishbones have always been pretty bizarre. I mean, how exactly are your heartfelt wishes all supposed to come true by splitting a greasy bone that you pulled out of the dead animal lying on your table? And, after all, wouldn’t the turkey have wished not to be eaten?
Well, the folks over at Lucky Break Wishbone seem to realize that there are a lot of vegan wishes out there waiting to come true. Thus, they have created a wishbone that is most definitely vegan-friendly—the wishbones are completely synthetic.
So, now there is a cruelty-free option for all of you who still want to take part in this tradition. Just think—by using these wishbones, you can make all sorts of wishes about better treatment for animals.
You could even stick one in the middle of your Tofurky (just make sure no one tries to eat it!). Both the packaging and the wishbones themselves are recyclable and made in the USA.
Enter to Win!
We’re giving three “lucky” people the chance to win a pack of 10 of the wishbones. To win, post a comment below with a wish that you have for animals! (Don’t worry―the whole saying it out loud thing doesn’t really apply, since you are typing it.)
This contest ends on November 13, 2009, and the winners will be chosen and notified the same day. You should also be sure to read the contest terms and conditions and PETA’s privacy policy before you comment—you’re acknowledging that you have read and agreed to both by leaving a comment.
Good luck!

peta waits in vain for Queen and Prince Phillip
When Charles and Camilla were visiting Canada last week peta sent out this press release:
For Immediate Release:
November 9, 2009
Contact:
Kathy Nizzari 757-622-7382
Ottawa -- As Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip meet with top Canadian government officials in Ottawa, they should expect an appearance by a PETA member wearing a baby seal costume and protesting Canada's controversial annual seal slaughter. The "seal" will hold a sign that reads, "The EU Got It Right: Stop the Seal Slaughter" The message is a reference to the fact that the European Union has banned seal products--as has the U.S. Among the officials whom the Royals will meet with are Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Governor General Michaele Jean, who ate the bloody, raw heart of a seal killed during this year's massacre:
Well well well, if you're going to protest to the royal couple, you should at least do your research and find out which royal couple is currently on tour in Canada.
If peta was waiting for the Queen and Prince Phillip they would have been sorely disappointed as it is Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales and his wife Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall who met with Stephen Harper and Michaelle Jean on Tuesday morning.

Join the crusade against the HSUS + Pass it forward
Most people just figure who cares, someone else will fight the battle!
Well, WE ARE fighting the battle just about every day, because in order to overcome the media manipulation of HSUS (multi millions of media $$) one cannot just say ‘Hey–that’s not true.’ It takes getting people mad, and mad enough to realize what is happening.
HSUS misleads the public/pet owners. This shows clearly that HSUS has no love for pets or pet owners!
HSUS *helped* the Louisville Metro Animal Services (MAS) devise a 100 page so-called dog ordinance law, and it has been admitted that HSUS Kentucky Director gave MAS+the Council access to HSUS “studies” and “data” re dangerous dogs. HSUS director made recommendations to the Council. We are fairly sure HSUS did a lot more than just recommend…………as HSUS has Directors in many states, and multiple states have attempted to enact similar laws concurrently.
Metro Animal Services (MAS) submitted to the Federal Court,
…..that HSUS’ role in the litigation is “but an extension of the role it has undertaken”, and substantially responsible for assisting Council…….. in pursuing a “comprehensive” approach. HSUS submitted its own brief twice, and was twice denied by the Court; HSUS’ brief was NOT allowed over objection, to be admitted.
HSUS is not even a party to the lawsuit but has a habit of filing amicus briefs. HSUS wanted to submit its own amicus brief to help defend Metro animal Services–since HSUS “helped” draft the law!
in addition, a member of HSUS’ law firm had previously represented the Plaintiff(Louisville Kennel Club) through the legislative process leading up to the enactment of the ordinance. A clear conflict of interest.
The court obviously agreed and HSUS failed to get its amicus brief admitted, despite having tried TWICE on 2 separate motions, to get it admitted. HSUS routinely does this because they keep a brief bank of every document they get filed, and try to use them in other areas over time. [This type of behavior by HSUS is typical!] and in my opinion, it is unethical as well in this case.

Twelve Step Plan To a No Animal Nation: The Animal Rights Agenda
When PETA first came on the scene in the 1980's, the general concensus was "what a bunch of fruitcakes!" The overwhelming majority of animal owners laughed at their nude antics and talk of "Animal Liberation" and "Animal Rights"...INSANE! We ignored them.
We continued on our merry way, going about our day-to-day routines and enjoying our animals and animal related activities. Hunters hunted, fishermen fished, pet owners bought/sold/bred/showed/trained...great advances were made in human and animal medicine.
No worries. Life was good. For now. The ARs told "us" of their plan, their goals...we didn't listen. A nation as great as ours could NEVER allow such lunacy to prevail, right??? NO animal use?, c'mon! NO pets?, "no way!" If only more of us had paid attention to what they were saying...changing the language and playing on human emotion...using "us" to push their socialist agenda : "Guardianship" instead of 'ownership', "don't breed or buy while shelter animals die!", "animals have a right NOT to be eaten!"... Laws were passed while we slept, making it more and more difficult/expensive to own pets...laws were passed villifying hunters...scientists were (and continue to be) ATTACKED for doing important animal medical testing, corporations such as KFC, have been the victims of media- terrorist- tactics aimed at destroying honest businesses...Honestly, if anyone reading this STILL thinks groups like the HSUS are in it for the welfare of the animals, you need a labotomy.
The HSUS is in it FOR THE MONEY. The HSUS and the rest of their ilk are human-haters when you get right down to it. The laws they propose ARE NOT for the benefit of the animals, they are proposed solely for the purpose of promoting their NO ANIMAL USE / VEGAN AGENDA. So, unless, dear readers, you want to become a nation of tofu burgers on the grill on the 4th of July, unless you DO NOT want a choice as to where your next purebred dog comes from...it is way past time to wake up and JOIN THE CRUSADE.
The following 12 Step plan was published in 1987, when the concept of Animal Rights was as foreign as fuzz on a frog's ass. Look at this list VERY CAREFULLY. ( Over the coming weeks, The Endangered Owner will look at each of these steps individually, so check back.)Each and every item on that list is being attacked by PETA and the HSUS. And for all of you pet owners out there that STILL do not believe the Animal Rightists want to end ALL PET BREEDING, read item number 10.
1. Abolish by law all animal research
3. Vegetarian meals should be made available at all public institutions, including schools
4. Eliminate all animal agriculture
5. No herbicides, pesticides or other agricultural chemicals. Outlaw predator control.
6. Transfer enforcement of animal welfare legislation away from the Department of Agriculture
7. Eliminate fur ranching and the use of furs.
8. Prohibit hunting, trapping and fishing.
9. End the international trade in wildlife goods
10. Stop any further breeding of companion animals, including purebred dogs and cats. Spaying and neutering should be subsidized by state and municipal governments. Abolish commerce in animals for the pet trade.
11. End the use of animals in entertainment and sports.
12. Prohibit the genetic manipulation of species.
NOTE: This was written in 1987, long before genetic engineering and cloning.
In this context, “genetic manipulation” means selective breeding”

In livestock farming there are two rules.
Rule number two: Animals rights activists can't change rule number one.

A little food for though
Here are some simple truths:
There is no glamour in livestock farming. There is low pay and much hard work.
And livestock farmers have (and are) sisters, brothers, children, grandchildren, parents, grandparents, friends, coworkers, partners, and spouses. We have responsibilities, struggles, jobs, bills, dreams, plans, hobbies, and interests. We have joys, sorrows, frustrations, and lives just like everyone else.
There are thousands of things on which we could spend our time and our money--if we had any. But we choose to put our time and our money, what little there is of it, into caring for our livestock. Animals cannot be turned off at 5pm, or on weekends, or for two weeks while we take a vacation.
Livestock needs to be cared for every day of every year.
Livestock farmers eat, sleep, and breathe the work they do, sacrificing much for it.
So the next time you're geared up to tell livestock farmers get a life, to ridicule their work and way of living, or to dismiss what they're trying to say to you, stop. The next time you're ready to presume that you know more about animal issues just because you've read about them on animal rights websites, and the people who devote everything they can to learning about and caring for the animals just must be crazy, stop. Stop and consider whether you really know what you're talking about. Consider that livestock farmers do what they do because they like animals and enjoy their company. We have to like animals to do what we do.
Consider that all the time and energy we've put into learning about animals. Three or four years at college or university studying animal behaviour, welfare issues, animal housing, nutrition, diseases and parasites, as well as years actually working with the animals, feeding them, moving them, treating them when they are sick, shoveling manure, and just plain observing them, learning their habits and their little quirks, learning to recognise them as individuals, and going back day after day even after we've been kicked, trampled on, bitten, urinated on, bruised, knocked over, or thrown in the air. Yes, I have had many trips to the hospital after being injured by my charges, but I still love them, and won't give them up without a fight.
When your instinct is to attack and ridicule, instead stop and ask yourself why we're doing what we're doing, what we're getting out of it. Livestock farmers feed the world. Without us many people would go hungry. Meat is a cheap source of protein that is still eaten by 98% of the US population in spite of efforts by some to turn everyone vegan. America still needs livestock farmers. Who will feed Americans when we have been legislated out of existance? We cannot grow enough crops in this country to provide the protein needed to feed every one. What will people eat then?
Livestock farming is not wrong or immoral. Livestock farmers care for the animals they raise, and they care for the people they feed. We are producing a food product, and we treat it accordingly. We want our meat to be safe and wholesome, and we also want to make a decent living.
If you really want to help farm livestock, why not lobby for farmers to be paid the true market value of their product? Contrary to popular belief, livestock farmers do not make a large profit. When times are good we may make $20 on each animal sold. At the end of 2007 we were losing $50 on each animal we sold. For a farmer who ships 300 hogs a week that's $15,000 they were losing every week, yet we still have to pay for power, feed, bedding, veterinary services, and transport. Is it any wonder farmers are driven to suicide?
So when you are eating your festive fare on December 25th, stop for a moment and think about the livestock farmers who will be caring for their stock before they can join their families for present opening around the tree.

More answers to peta's propaganda
Eh? pardon me? er, did I read that right? "fed and sprayed with huge amounts of pesticides and antibiotics" Come on now peta, even for you this statement is a bit far fetched.
Pesticides are sprayed on crops, not on animals. Some antiparasitic preparations are used to prevent and control worms and mange but these are carefully controlled and are definitely not used in "huge amounts" A pig is treated maybe (varies from farm to farm and area to area) every 4 months and a cow once a year.
There is no incentive for any farmer to overuse antibiotics. Antibiotics are given to animals when they are sick, just like you would give them to a sick human.
Antibiotics are most effective when used as directed by a veterinarian. Misuse has no benefit to the farmer. If products are found to have residues, they are condemned and so never reach the supermarket shelves, hence they are never eaten by people, and never create any human health hazaard.
Both the World Health Organization and the American Medical Association have supported ending the use of antibiotics in this manner.(1,2) Although McDonald’s has announced that its suppliers will phase out growth-promoting antibiotics, the fast-food chain is not likely to decrease its overall use of antibiotics.(3) The industry simply could not continue to raise billions of animals per year in such extreme conditions without the drugs that allow animals’ bodies to survive conditions that would otherwise kill them.
That last sentence is a load of boloney.
The only way antibiotics promote growth is by keeping the animals healthy. A healthy animal utilizes its feed much better than a sick one, so it grows faster and also doesn't use up valuable resources like time and drugs needed to care for a sick or unthrifty animal.
